The Oshkosh Winnebagoland Barbershop Chorus, under the direction of Todd Oxley, won the championship of the Packerland Division of the Land O’ Lakes District on May 5, 2012 in Stevens Point. They competed with choruses from Appleton, Stevens Point, Manitowoc, and Plymouth.
The Oshkosh chapter won the division TRIFECTA with championship plaques for Most Improved, the Plateau AA (for choruses from 40 to 75 members), and the overall chorus Packerland Division championship for all plateaus competing.
To compete, each chorus must sing two songs and are judged on music, presentation, and singing. The Oshkosh chapter performed “All Dressed up with a Broken Heart,” and “If You Were the Only Girl in the World.”
Local groups also did well in the quartet competition with “The Cheery-O’s,” consisting of Todd Oxley and his three sons Nathan, Joshua, and Jacob, winning the quartet championship, and “One Button Short” (with members from Oshkosh and Appleton) taking third.
For the fourth consecutive year, the Oshkosh Barbershoppers earned the right to compete in the Land O’ Lakes District competition, which will be held this year in Rochester, Minnesota on October 27. The Land O’ Lakes District includes the states of Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and three provinces of Canada.
