The Oshkosh Winnebagoland Barbershop Chorus, under the direction of Todd Oxley, participated in the Land 0’ Lakes (LOL) District Barbershop Competition in La Crosse, Wisconsin on October 26. The chorus earned the right to compete at the district level by winning the Packerland Division contest in May. The contest included choruses from Appleton, Green Bay, Manitowoc, Plymouth, Stevens Point, and Escanaba, Michigan.
At the district contest, the Oshkosh chorus was one of 19 participating choruses that included groups from Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Canada. Each chorus earned the right to compete at the district level by achieving qualifying scores at their respective division contests. The Oshkosh chorus placed seventh.
A Youth-In-Harmony Festival, bringing together high school students from throughout the district to learn more about the barbershop style of music, was held in conjunction with the convention. The 80 participants formed a chorus and performed to an appreciative audience of barbershoppers. Six area youth were members of the chorus. They included Madison Baker, Matt Beecher, Austin Cottrell, and Matt Schneider from Oshkosh, and William John and Dillon Moore from Brandon.
In the quartet competition with 24 groups participating, The Cheery-O’s, with Oshkosh ties, made the finals and finished in fourth place. The group includes Todd Oxley and his three sons, Nathan, Joshua, and Jacob.
