The Oshkosh Winnebagoland Barbershop Chorus, under the direction of Todd Oxley, participated in the Land O’ Lakes (LOL) District barbershop competition in Fargo, North Dakota on October 23, 2010. The Oshkosh chorus placed 5th overall (its highest finish ever) and 2nd for groups having 40-75 members. The group competed with choruses from Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, and Canada. The Ripon Harmony Kings Barbershop Chorus, which includes some dual members from the Oshkosh chapter, also competed. They were directed by Bob Kuhnz.
The Oshkosh chorus previously qualified for the district contest in May by winning competition in the Packerland Division of the LOL District. The Packerland Division consists of barbershop chapters throughout northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
In the quartet competition, two Oshkosh groups made the finals. “Perfect Timing” (Ed Boehm, Bob Thiel, Lynn ‘Ole’ Anderson, and Bob Lemkuil) took 6th place overall, and for the 8th consecutive year qualified to compete in the Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Seniors’ Quartet Competition, which will be held in Las Vegas in January, 2011. The Cheery-O’s (Josh Oxley, Nathan Oxley, Jacob Oxley, and Todd Oxley), 2010 LOL Division One champions, placed 8th overall.
“Main Street Station” won the quartet championship. The lead singer of this group is Jason Seiberlich, who got his start in barbershopping with the Oshkosh West High School Barbershop Chorus.
“Mad Harmony” were awarded the LOL District novice quartet championship. Mad Harmony includes Josh Oxley, the young man who started the barbershop chorus at Oshkosh West in 2000, and who is now the director of the Madison chapter.
