For the fourth consecutive year, the Winnebagoland Barbershop Chorus competed in the Land O’Lakes (LOL) District competition, which was held this year in Rochester, Minnesota on October 27. The Oshkosh chorus was one of 17 competing choruses that each earned the right to compete at the district level by achieving qualifying scores in their respective division contests.

Each chorus performed two songs in the competition, and were judged on music, presentation, and singing. The Oshkosh chapter performed “The Moment I Saw Your Eyes” and “Among my Souvenirs” and took a very respectable sixth place in the 2012 competition, graduating by one slot from seventh place, which they achieved in 2011.

The Land O’Lakes District includes choruses and quartets from Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and three provinces of Canada.

Local quartet, “The Cheery-O’s,” consisting of Todd Oxley and his three sons Nathan, Joshua, and Jacob, finished sixth among 21 entrants, having qualified for LOL District competition by winning the quartet championship at the Packerland Division contest. “One Button Short,” (with members from Oshkosh and Appleton) also competed in the LOL District quartet competition after taking third place at the division level.

At the division level, the Oshkosh chorus, competing with groups from Appleton, Manitowoc, Stevens Point, Plymouth, Ripon and Wausau, took 2nd place and qualified for LOL District competition.

In the quartet competition, several groups with Oshkosh connections performed. “The Cheery-O’s” won the contest and “Perfect Timing” was 3rd. “One Button Short” came in 4th and took the novice championship. All three quartets earned the right to compete at the district level. “Rooftop Rhythm,” another quartet with Oshkosh members, competed in the Division 1 contest. They were crowned champions and qualified for the district.

At the LOL District contest, the Winnebagoland Barbershop Chorus was one of 17 participating choruses that included groups from Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Dakota. Each chorus earned the right to compete in the contest by achieving qualifying scores at their respective division contests. In the LOL District quartet competition, two quartets with Oshkosh ties made the finals. “Rooftop Rhythm” were 3rd place medalists and “The Cheery-O’s” took 8th place. Making the semifinals were “Perfect Timing” and “One Button Short.”
